Just because someone is willing to talk about issues and policy with you doesn’t mean they are open to persuasion and considering new points of view. That kind of open-minded discussion is what we need to see more often, but it doesn’t pay to try and engage in debate with someone who only repeats partisan talking points. Know the difference, and save yourself some headaches!
