State Supreme Court Justice Shirley Abrahamson announced that she won’t seek re-election next year.
The 84-year-old says there are a “variety of reasons” and it’s the right decision for her and the state. She says she plans to serve through July 31, 2019.
Abrahamson is a former chief justice and the first woman on the state’s Supreme Court. She joined in 1976.
In recent months she’s participated in cases by telephone only due to illness. The election to replace Abrahamson is scheduled for April.
