A Little Chute high school teacher is facing another sexual assault charge from incidents the district knew about for almost a decade.
Prosecutors charged 45-year-old Jason LaVigne with the repeated sexual assault of a student in 1999. They say the accusations were in LaVigne’s school personnel file and the district didn’t report them to police years ago.
Prosecutors say the former student reached out to a counselor in 2009 and accused LaVigne of rubbing up against her multiple times in class. They say he also asked her to have sexual contact with him. She reported that it happened early in 1999 when she was a 14-year-old freshman.
The school district released a statement saying there was a full investigation immediately after the student contacted the counselor. It says at that time the district wasn’t able to substantiate any evidence of wrongdoing. The district says it has no reason to believe any other students were involved and it hasn’t received any other complaints.
LaVigne was arrested earlier this month on charges that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in Marinette County. Prosecutors say they were boating and LaVigne gave the girl several vodka lemonade drinks. They say he stopped at a sandy beach area and assaulted her.
