Both sides are reacting to the Dassey decision.
Attorney General Brad Schimel says hopefully the family and friends of Teresa Halbach can find comfort in knowing this ordeal finally came to a close.
One of Dassey’s attorneys, Laura Nirider, says they’ll continue to fight for Dassey. She says the video of the interrogation shows a confused boy who was manipulated by experienced police officers into accepting their story of how the murder happened.
A former lawyer for Steven Avery says Dassey has more options. Attorney Jerome Buting says newly discovered evidence and other violations in Avery’s case will apply to Dassey.
The prosecutor, former Calumet County District Attorney Ken Kratz, says he has a great deal of sympathy for Dassey. He says Avery made him a murderer, and his family and attorneys gave him the worst possible advice. He says Dassey could’ve been walking out of prison in as little as three years from today, if he had agreed to a plea deal.
