A local nonprofit is doing something different to promote water safety.
Safe Kids Fox Valley is encouraging parents and caregivers to designate a Water Watcher, anytime children are around water.
Sarah Rhone is a nurse for the Outagamie County Health and Human Services Department. She’s also the coordinator of the Safe Kids program. She says the watcher will be scanning the water for a certain period of time. She says it could be 15 minutes or 20 minutes, and then they can pass the responsibility on to another water.
Rhone says they have 11 locations to pick up special lanyards, with a card that designates a person as a Water Watcher.
