Turnout in yesterday’s primary was the highest in 16 years.
Nearly 22 percent voted, and that’s the highest total since 22-1/2 percent in 2002. That year featured a multi-candidate primary for governor on the Democratic side won by Jim Doyle, while then Gov. Scott McCallum faced nominal Republican opposition.
In all, nearly 994,000 people went to the polls yesterday.
