A Kaukauna police officer and a good Samaritan are being credited with saving an elderly man from a burning house yesterday afternoon.
Assistant Chief Jamie Graff says officer Charlie Vosters was only a few blocks away from a fire call in the town of Vandenbroek just north of the city and was the first one on the scene. Graff says Vosters saw flames coming from a detached garage that was getting close to the house. He says a woman outside said her husband, who has a hard time walking due to health conditions, was still in the house.
Graff says Vosters and an unidentified person went into the house which was starting to fill with smoke and woke the man up.
Graff says as they were getting out the room where the man was sleeping became engulfed in flames.
