In September, Americans observe the anniversary of 9/11 and Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month. Across Wisconsin, growing Muslim-Americans and Latinx communities are making important contributions to our cultural richness.
And yet, some people fear that which they think may represent a threat. This fear has lead to acts of bias and even violence. One strategy to counteract this fear and defuse conflict is to find non-threatening ways to experience the diverse cultures around us.
Dr Kimberly Barrett from Lawrence University and Karen Nelson with the City of Appleton share their perspectives on this issue, and offer some local events where you can experience different cultures and people. We also get an update on the Dignity & Respect Campaign.
