A 45-year-old man is going to prison for 22 years for slipping an abortion pill to his pregnant girlfriend, nearly 11 years ago.
Manishkumar Patel was on the run for nine years, after he was charged in Outagamie County in 2007 and he posted a $750,000 bond.
District Attorney Melinda Templis says the case has a long history, with a lot of things going on over the years. She says it’s nice to finally have a conclusion to the case, and have justice be served.
Patel reached a plea deal in August, and he was convicted of the attempted murder of an unborn child.
Prosecutors say Patel put the drug into his girlfriend’s smoothie, and she later had a miscarriage. He was caught by U.S. Border Patrol Agents in northern New York in January of last year.
Patel will also have to spend four years on extended supervision after he’s released.
