A group wants to help voters learn about an advisory referendum that will be on next month’s ballot in Outagamie County.
The League of Women Voters of Appleton is holding a forum in the downtown tonight on the dark store loophole.
Jeanne Roberts is the chapter’s president, and she says some people don’t understand what it’s about. She says they want to lay out the facts, so voters can make their own decision.
The dark store loophole lets big-box retailers argue their stores should be assessed the same way as a closed, empty store. Opponents say that puts more of the property tax burden on homeowners.
The forum is at the Copper Rock Coffee Company on College Avenue. It will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
