Affordable healthcare coverage for people with pre-existing conditions has emerged as a major issue in the 2018 midterm elections. Republicans in Congress want private insurers to offer a “no frills” option for people who cannot afford more comprehensive insurance coverage. These “short-term, limited duration” plans, called “junk plans” by Democrats, are much less expensive, but leave many people without the coverage they need.
