With just under three weeks to go before election day the Democratic challenger in the race for the 8th congressional district says his opponent hasn’t responded to a request for at least two debates.
Beau Liegeois of Allouez is an assistant district attorney in Brown County. He’s facing Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher of Green Bay.
Liegeois calls the House of Representatives the third-highest office behind the presidency and U.S. Senate. He says a debate is a fundamental part of the democracy. He says people deserve to hear from the candidates.
Gallagher says he’s been doing a number of candidate profile interviews to talk about where he stands on issues. He says he’s happy to look at whatever proposal Liegeois has. He says he’s debated other candidates in the past including Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson in 2016.
There have been one or more debates in the eighth congressional district races dating back to at least 2006.
