An Appleton-based insurance company won a ruling by the state Supreme Court, stemming from a large wildfire in northwest Wisconsin.
Ray Duerr Logging had a policy with Secura Insurance. The company’s logging equipment sparked the Germann Road Fire in Douglas County, in May of 2013. Almost 7,500 acres burned, and 17 houses were destroyed.
The insurance policy had a $2 million limit. It also had a $500,000 limit, per occurrence, for fire damages caused by logging.
Justices decided the fire was a single occurrence, so it fell under the $500,000 limit.
