Governor-elect Tony Evers will continue on as the state superintendent of schools until he’s sworn in as governor on January 7th.
That gives Evers the power to appoint his replacement. If he would resign earlier, Governor Walker could appoint a successor.
The appointee would lead the Department of Public Instruction until the next election for the job, in the spring of 2021. Evers could also call a special election for the position.
