The murder trial for a 31-year-old man accused of killing a friend over drugs is on hold again.
Antwon Powell is charged with murdering 32-year-old David Shorter in 2015. Powell’s been in court 24 times since then, and he’s on his fifth lawyer. The trial has been rescheduled three times.
Commander Jim Runge of the Green Bay police department says Powell is exercising his rights. He says the delays are bogging down the system but they want to make sure he has a fair trial.
Powell is facing an additional charge. Prosecutors say he offered another inmate $5,000 to kill his girlfriend, after he learned she talked with police.
Jury selection was supposed to start yesterday, but the defense said there’s a problem with some of the evidence. The trial is now delayed until January.
