There’s now a police dog on the roads in Fox Crossing.
It’s the first time the department has had a K-9 unit in at least 15 years.
Officer Dan Wiechman says Hans is a two-year-old Dutch Shepard. He says an officer and the dog went through months of training first.
The dog specializes in searching for people and drugs.
Wiechman says in the years they didn’t have a dog, surrounding departments helped by bringing in their dogs for certain calls. But he says it’s more convenient to have their own.
Wiechman says they raised money through the community to buy the dog. He says they reached their goal sooner than they expected.
