Green Bay Packers President Mark Murphy says it was time to make a coaching change, the tenure of Coach Mike McCarthy had run its course.
Murphy held a press conference with General Manager Brian Gutekunst this afternoon at Lambeau Field.
Murphy says he made the decision after yesterday’s game, because he thought the team’s performance was unacceptable.
He says quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn’t have any input in the firing. He says while Rodgers will be free to provide input in the search for a new coach, he won’t be involved in the decision-making process.
McCarthy coached the Packers for 13 seasons. Offensive Coordinator Joe Philbin is the interim coach.
