A number of groups are officially asking a federal judge to throw out new limits on early voting.
Governor Walker signed the lame-duck bill last Friday.
Citizen Action of Wisconsin is among the organizations filing a request with Judge James Peterson. Executive Director Robert Kraig believes Peterson’s ruling in 2016 blocking different early voting changes also applies to the new law. He says if you have a governor and legislature that decide to violate the ruling of a federal judge, one of the remedies is to block enforcement.
Former Democratic Attorney General Eric Holder is the leader of another group that’s involved in the court filing. There could also be challenges to the other lame-duck bills that strip power from Governor-elect Tony Evers and incoming Attorney General Josh Kaul.
