An Appleton Veterans Affairs police officer is talking about his role in saving an 18-month-old child.
Officer Cole Kantner says he was on his way from the Appleton clinic to Green Bay VA Health Care Center last Wednesday morning. He was on I-41 North in an unmarked car.
Kantner says a call came over the radio around 9:30 a.m. about an armed and dangerous suspect that was wanted for a possible kidnapping and assault. He says he realized a vehicle matching the description was two cars ahead of him. He says he was in the right spot at the right time.
Kantner says he called the Brown County Sheriff’s department. He says he followed the car for about 25 minutes and updated them on the situation. Sheriff’s deputies pulled the suspect over near University Avenue in Green Bay and arrested him. The child wasn’t hurt.
Kantner says he was just doing what anyone else would have done in the same situation.
