New figures on poverty from the U.S. Census Bureau list the Appleton area as a bright spot, because the local poverty rate is declining.
U.S. Venture’s Greg Vandenberg says Appleton was one of six cities in the country that was mentioned. He feels it validates the work agencies are doing to fight poverty.
Vandenberg announced a new round of grants for nonprofits yesterday, and they total almost $1.6 million. The money was raised at the annual U.S. Venture Open.
The community foundations in the Fox Valley, Oshkosh, and Green Bay areas will hand out the funding to programs that target poverty in the region.
