The top Republican in the Senate says people should expect some serious political wrangling over the state budget next year.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says it’s likely Republicans in the Legislature will be leading on the budget and not Democratic Governor-elect Tony Evers. He says despite that he’s hoping to reach some agreements with Evers. He says there could be some common areas, or possibly some veto assurances, and build a consensus.
Evers is expected to introduce his proposed budget in February. There’s talk that Majority Republicans in the Legislature would scrap that and put together their own to send back to Evers.
Fitzgerald says he anticipates GOP lawmakers will work from their own base budget.
