Deer hunters will be out in certain counties in the state starting today and until the end of the year.
The DNR holds a Holiday Hunt just for antlerless deer and Outagamie County is joining in this year. The hunt is only allowed in what’s called the farmland area and southern Wisconsin.
Jeff Pritzl is the DNR’s regional wildlife program supervisor. He says there are seven counties in northeast Wisconsin including Brown and Waupaca. He says each county decides whether to participate. He says they’ve seen a few counties add to it, and they expect more to join in the future as they see how it goes in other communities.
Pritzl says the Holiday Hunt started in the southern part of the state several years ago to fight chronic wasting disease.
