Despite the big blizzard in April that ate up 25 percent of Appleton’s snow removal budget, the city is close to meeting its projected budget for the year.
Public Works Director Paula Vandehey says going into Friday’s snow, they were about $30,000 under their nearly $1.4 million budget. She believes they’ll end the year a little over, because it will likely cost more than $30,000 to take care of the roads.
The city spent $350,000 cleaning up after the April blizzard. Vandehey says on May 1st, she thought there was no way they’d be able to make the budget. She says a lack of snow in November and December definitely helped.
