Governor-elect Tony Evers says he has no plans to break the new laws that limit his power.
The Republican-controlled Legislature passed the bills during a lame-duck session about one month ago.
Evers says he expects to be a defendant in lawsuits over them. He says if they go forward, it’s likely he’ll be the one that’s sued because he’ll be the acting governor at that time.
Evers backtracked from comments he made to a Milwaukee newspaper on Wednesday when he said he wouldn’t follow some of the lame-duck provisions. Yesterday he said he has “no intent of breaking the law.”
Evers takes office on Monday. WHBY will have live coverage of the inauguration starting at 11:00 a.m. that day.
