The Outagamie County judge in charge of the Appleton school district’s truancy court is holding a meeting next week on the court, and the overall justice system.
Next Tuesday’s public meeting comes in the wake of a school district consultant’s recommendation to replace Judge Mark McGinnis on the truancy court.
Duane McCrary accused McGinnis of bullying students, and bringing a negative undertone to the hearings.
McGinnis will open his Branch 1 courtroom to the public for the meeting, at noon on Tuesday. It’s scheduled to last one hour, and people are invited to stay and watch court cases throughout the afternoon.
The district suspended the truancy court for the rest of the school year, after some students and parents raised concerns about how they’re being treated. Administrators are planning to present some steps on how to move forward, to members of the school board, one week from today.
