Appleton’s police chief is calling for an end to the federal government shutdown.
Chief Todd Thomas took part in a national conference call this morning. He says people might not realize it in their daily lives, but it does have an impact locally.
Thomas says the shutdown affects a lot of the department’s federal partnerships. He says last time there was a short shutdown, it took about a year to recover. Thomas says they had to wait to receive grant money, and hear back on whether they received other grants.
On the immigration issue, Thomas hopes both sides can sit down and find some common ground.
President Trump will address the nation on border security and the shutdown at 8 p.m. Tuesday. You can hear him, and the Democratic response, live on WHBY.
