A Republican U.S. Senator says the country needs better barriers at the Mexican border.
Senator Ron Johnson is from Oshkosh. He says barriers work, and are a necessary first step to gaining control over the border. He says it’s also a first step toward fixing the country’s broken immigration system.
Johnson says continuing the government shutdown is President Trump’s only leverage to improve border security. He says if they re-open the government he doesn’t believe Democrats would negotiate in good faith.
Johnson hopes Trump doesn’t declare a national emergency in order to get funding for the wall. He believes the move would be challenged in the courts and it would never get built.
