The closing of Shopko’s store in Menasha isn’t stopping a developer’s plans to revamp a nearby strip mall, and add more businesses.
Alexander and Bishop of Oshkosh wants to build more shops in the parking lot, along Appleton Road. The area could be called Menasha Marketplace.
Sam Schroeder is the city’s community development director. He says before the city takes up a proposed TIF district for the project, he wants to take an extra month to take another look at the overall site. He says that could include whether the Shopko store could be redeveloped or re-scaled.
Schroeder says the city council could vote on the TIF district in March.
Developer Peter Jungbacker believes there will be some talks with the owner of the Shopko building about how to move forward. He says they plan to start construction in the spring, and finish in the early fall. He says stores will be open throughout the project.
