Voters in the Kaukauna school district will decide a referendum on April 2nd for nearly $33 million worth of projects.
Superintendent Mark Duerwaechter says they would upgrade security at all schools and renovate River View Middle School. He says it’ll be 100 years old in 2022. He says it’s had a number of additions, and there are inequities in the amount of learning space for kids.
The district would also build a new gym and multi-purpose space at the middle school. Duerwaechter says their elementary schools would be renovated so they can have 4-K through fourth grade students at each one.
If the referendum passes property owners would pay an additional $67 a year per $100,000 of value.
The school board approved the referendum on a four-to-three vote. Duerwaechter believes it was close because of different opinions on whether to split the referendum into separate questions.
