A new law allows the Winnebago County Sheriff’s department to declare “Slow, No Wake” zones on local waterways, including Lake Winnebago and the Wolf River.
Sheriff John Matz says the sheriff’s departments in Outagamie and Waupaca counties have been able to put the zones in place, for years. He says given the number of lakes and rivers in the county, it only makes sense.
In the past, communities along waterways in Winnebago County declared their own “Slow, No Wake” zones. Matz says those weren’t always enforceable.
