Monday will be the first time Appleton schools won’t hold classes to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Pa Lee Moua is the diversity coordinator for the district. She says the board voted unanimously to include the day off in the academic calendar for the school year. She says they want to give students and the community a chance to work together on projects, and continue King’s legacy of service.
The district is planning a variety of events throughout the day at Appleton East High School. Moua says people can sign up to participate in an afternoon of service, and ride a volunteer bus to several sites.
There’s a place to sign up on the Appleton school district website.
