Car sales in the Fox Valley area were down about 5.5 percent last year.
Scott Quimby of Reg-Trak crunched the numbers for Outagamie, Winnebago, Brown, and Calumet counties. He says almost 27,600 vehicles were sold. He says the slower year followed trends across the country. He says nationwide, there were some big pitfalls in early 2018 that had the industry nervous. He says toward the end of the year things leveled off.
Truck sales rose by 3.5 percent. Car sales fell nearly 29 percent. Quimby says the big reason for that drop is that crossover-style vehicles are now classified as trucks. He says they’ve been gaining in popularity over the past several years.
