About 50 veterans from northeast Wisconsin are getting ready for the first-ever local honor flight back to Vietnam.
They were randomly picked out of more than 500 vets to apply for the “Return to Nam” trip.
Tom Van Lanen of De Pere is going. He says years ago he didn’t think he would do it but times have changed. He says he saw a lot of men get injured and killed, and had nightmares over the years.
The group will also meet some of the Vietnamese soldiers they fought against.
The veterans will travel from Saigon to Hanoi over two weeks. The Honor Flight leaves February 24th.
