About 800 people turned out last night in downtown Appleton to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
It was the 28th annual celebration and it’s one of the biggest MLK events in the Fox Valley.
The celebration was held at the Lawrence University Chapel on College Avenue.
For the first time ever, classes weren’t held in the Appleton school district on Martin Luther King, Jr. day.
The city and district worked together to sponsor a day of service that included a variety of activities at Appleton East High School.
U-W Oshkosh held it 24th annual MLK Day celebration last night as well.
Several people were recognized for community service and the winners of the Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest were named.
