A group that helps people with gambling addiction saw an almost 9.5 percent increase in hotline calls last year.
Rose Blozinski is the executive director of the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling. She says they had almost 14,000 calls in 2018 and there were a lot of devastating stories. She says some people have gambled away their down payments for homes, mortgage payments, and paychecks.
Blozinski’s group is based in Green Bay. She believes they got more calls in part because there’s less stigma around gambling addiction.
