Majority Republicans in the Assembly are on board with a proposal to protect pre-existing conditions.
They’re sending a bill to the Senate, after a 76-to-19 vote late Tuesday afternoon. Sixteen Democrats also voted for it.
Republican Rep. Kevin Peterson of Waupaca was the co-author. He says it would ban health insurers from turning away people with pre-existing conditions or charging them more.
The bill’s fate in the Senate is unclear. And Governor Evers is insisting that the final version include coverage for mothers and newborns, along with prescription drugs.
