Appleton International Airport is now the third-busiest in the state.
The passenger numbers jumped by 25 percent last year.
Airport spokesman Patrick Tracey says that moved ATW ahead of Austin Straubel International Airport in the Green Bay area.
He says that could help bring in more flights, because airlines are looking at Appleton as a robust, growing airport.
Tracey says it’s the first time they’ve been third in the state rankings in the 54-year history of the airport. Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport is the busiest, and Dane County Regional Airport in Madison ranks second.
The industry bases the list on the number of passengers that get on a plane in a year. Appleton International Airport’s total was over 360,000 in 2017. Tracey says the Madison airport’s total was around 1 million.
