A revamp of the Gabriel Furniture building in downtown Appleton is one of three projects that one developer is working on nearby.
Commercial Horizons wants to turn the historic building into apartments. Two smaller buildings that make up the storefront, along College Avenue, would also be replaced with a new three-story building. There would be 21 apartments and first-floor retail space, under the name Gabriel Lofts.
Mayor Tim Hanna says it’s one of many projects the city has been working on, including with developers other than Commercial Horizons. He believes many of them will be finalized sometime this year.
Commercial Horizons is also working on a mixed-use development that would include a new library and apartments, on the Soldiers Square parking ramp site. The third project would be just south of the YMCA, and those plans are still in the works.
