A report on tobacco in Wisconsin shows a 78 percent increase in youth using e-cigarettes.
The American Lung Association’s findings are the latest evidence of a big jump in the past year.
Spokeswoman Dona Wininsky says companies are targeting minors, claiming it’s only harmless water vapor.
The state health department issued a public health advisory on teen e-cigarette use last month.
Wininsky says they’ve seen a significant drop in the number of teens smoking tobacco cigarettes in the past few years. The group puts the adult smoking rate in Wisconsin at 16 percent. The national average is 14 percent.
