Appleton’s leader believes proposals to bring more housing to the downtown could reshape the retail market there.
Mayor Tim Hanna thinks having people around 24 hours a day will attract different types of businesses. He believes people might not want to get in their car and drive to places like a grocery store.
Commercial Horizons is proposing to turn Gabriel Furniture into 21 apartments called the Gabriel Lofts. That same developer also wants to include about 100 apartments with a new library on the site of the Soldiers Square parking ramp.
