Republicans in the state are speaking out about abortion proposals in Virginia and New York.
A new law in New York allows abortions after 24 weeks if the health or life of the mother is at risk or the fetus is not viable. A proposal that was defeated in Virginia would’ve reduced the number of doctors that need to sign off on a late-term abortion. One doctor, instead of three, would’ve been allowed to decide if the pregnancy would impair the mental or physical health of the mother.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says if the “radical left” in the Assembly decides to introduce the proposal, there will be a similar outcry and concern as the rest of the country.
Right now Wisconsin law currently bans abortion beyond 20 weeks unless the life and health of the mother is at risk.
