A Republican plan to cut state income taxes for the middle class is heading to the Assembly next week.
The Legislature’s budget committee approved it on a party-line vote Thursday.
Republican Rep. Mark Born of Beaver Dam supports using part of the state budget surplus. He says the state collected too much tax revenue and lawmakers should give some of it back.
The proposal is different from the one from Governor Evers. The Democrat wants to cap a tax credit for manufacturers to help offset the tax cut.
Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he’s open to negotiating with Evers. The Assembly is expected to take up the bill next Tuesday.
