A local community is preparing for life without a pharmacy.
The Shopko store in Winneconne is on the latest list of closures.
Village Administrator Mitchell Foster says the pharmacy is actually shutting down this afternoon. The store itself will stay open until May.
Foster says the closest pharmacies to Winneconne are in Oshkosh and Omro.
He wants to talk with the owner of the Shopko building about putting something new there. He doubts a big box store would be interested. He thinks putting multiple businesses in the building would be a better fit.
The Ashwaubenon-based Shopko filed for bankruptcy last month. The stores in Kimberly, De Pere, and Brillion were also on yesterday’s updated list of closures.
