The sturgeon spearing season gets underway Saturday, and the DNR is watching the water clarity on Lake Winnebago.
Fisheries Biologist Ryan Koenigs says they checked seven locations, and it averages 9-1/2 feet. He says the conditions are better on the northern half of the lake.
Koenigs says clarity is the biggest factor in how the sturgeon spearing season will go. He expects to have a full season, but the harvest numbers on Lake Winnebago could be better than last year’s total of about 650.
