Thousands of people were on the ice this weekend and the DNR says several people left their trash on Lake Winnebago.
Lieutenant Chris Shea says it’s illegal and people face a 200 dollar fine.
One pile of litter about three miles from Merritt Avenue in Oshkosh got attention on social media. A post with pictures of the garbage on the lake was shared more than 1400 times.
Shea expects the people who left the garbage to come forward and clean up the mess. He says the community takes this seriously and in most cases they find out who is responsible.
