The Winnebago County Highway Department is dealing with a salt shortage, and warning drivers that it could impact road conditions.
The department says this winter has been significantly more severe in the county, than the recent five-year average. A statement says salt supplies were near zero after this week’s snowstorm, and the DOT is borrowing some salt from Fond du Lac County.
The department says I-41 is the top priority, and if supplies aren’t replenished, other roads could be more slippery than drivers typically see.
