A local doctor is concerned about measles after several outbreaks across the country.
Doctor Sharon Rink is a pediatrician at ThedaCare in Darboy. She’s worried the virus could reach the state. She says the immunization rate in Wisconsin is in the mid-80 percent range. She says for a community to be considered protected, it needs to be about 95 percent.
Rink calls the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine “safe.” She points out measles can cause ear infections, brain damage, and even death. The disease is spread through the air so Rink says anyone who isn’t vaccinated is at risk.
