The veto from Governor Evers was the first of an entire bill in almost three years.
The new Democratic governor used his veto pen yesterday on a Republican plan to cut taxes for the middle class. Evers has his own proposal for a tax cut, and he wants to include it in his budget.
The last time a governor vetoed a full bill was in April of 2016. Former Republican Governor Scott Walker struck down two GOP proposals. One would’ve required inspections of more home remodeling projects, and the other would’ve changed a number of DOT administrative rules.
It’s been nearly 15 years since a Democratic governor vetoed a full bill. Former Governor Jim Doyle used his pen on two proposals in May of 2004. They would’ve required the Legislature to sign off on tribal gambling compacts, and created guidelines for health savings accounts.
