Investigators say a truancy issue led to the discovery of what they’re calling “deplorable conditions” at a home in eastern Brown County.
Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Pawlak says a relative of the high school student went to the house in the Town of Eaton yesterday. He says the man called deputies after he got into an argument with the child’s mother, and a dog bit him.
Pawlak says they found 31 dogs and seven dead farm animals on the farmstead. He adds they don’t know if more dead animals are buried in snow.
The animals are at the Wisconsin Humane Society’s shelter in Brown County.
Pawlak says they initially arrested the 36-year-old mother for the dead animals. He says they’re also recommending child neglect charges, after seeing the conditions in the house. Two children were living there.
