The numbers are in for the Appleton Public Library from last year.
Circulation totals in the downtown building were down six percent to about 970,000 items. The number of people coming through the door also slipped by six percent to more than 440-thousand.
Library Director Colleen Rortvedt says they saw another big increase in electronic circulation numbers. They jumped 28 percent to more than 140,000. She says those collections and services are increasing, and that’s happening across the country.
Attendance in teen programs rose by 28 percent last year. Rortvedt says staffing changes played a role in a 45 percent drop in children’s programs and 16 percent for adults.
